LA TARTINERIE

Look away if you're hungry, even if you aren't, you will be after seeing these mouth watering salads. All food obsessed people need to hop on to a plane to Avignon and visit this restaurant.

LA TARTINERIE looks sleek, stylish and quite simply very modern until you step inside and the realisation hits you that it is, in fact, an old church. A wonderfully bright stained glass window leads your eye to the gothic rib vaulted ceiling and for a moment, you forget you're in a delicious restaurant. The food is just as exquisite and as breathtaking as the interior. The menu is a sight for hungry stomachs, with the heat our eyes went straight to the salads. We ordered "La Normande", a salad bursting with lashings of sweet sticky fig chutney on crusty slices of baguette topped with a good chunk of Camembert, drizzled with tangy Balsamic vinagarette, all this placed atop of (we think) a whole lettuce, crunchy slithers of apple with walnuts, the most beautiful sun dried tomatoes I've ever eaten with even more of that tangy balsamic. Is your mouth watering yet? Mine is! We also order a "L'italienne", a salad of tiny mozzarella balls and exploding cherry tomatoes... Need I say more?
If you haven't already thought "I need to go there!" I suggest you do. The house rosé goes perfectly with the salads.
